2011 “Today’s Challenging Employment Outlook”
The big day arrived on Friday, May 13, 2011 and despite the ominous date, it was a huge success. Four panelists: Joseph Hamm, Regional Rep for the Commissioner of Labor; Maggie Moree, New York State Business Council; Karen Springmeier, Executive Director of FL Workforce Investment Board; and Mike Mandina, President of Optimax Systems, Inc and Chair of FAME (FL Advanced Manufacturer’s Enterprise) Spoke on “Today’s Challenging Employment Outlook”.
Each panelist spoke about their experiences and then asked invited Legislators to comment. Our own Robert Oaks Assemblyman, a representative for Senator Charles Schumer, a representative for Senator Kristen Gillibrand, a representative for State Senator Mike Nozzolio, and a representative for Congresswoman Ann Marie Buerkle were in attendance as well as Peg Churchill from Wayne County Economic Development and added important information on the challenges facing our County.
Attendees included many of our Wayne County Supervisors and Mayors and some business managers from area schools as well as many business leaders and agency directors.
While the problems still exist, we all felt that the challenges were articulated clearly so that we could begin the arduous work of working toward solutions.
Special thanks to Susie Earl, Warren Halliday, Diane Lagenor, and Linda McQueen who have been meeting for three months to plan the legislative breakfast.
